Starmer succeeded him as Prime Minister. Sunak became the Leader of the
Opposition.

The general election was held, resulting in a landslide victory for the Labour
Party and the end of 14 years of Conservative government. Sunak conceded the
election and announced his intention to resign as party leader.

Sunak announced that he had asked the King to call a general election for 4 July

Sunak was appointed as Prime Minister by King Charles III, becoming the first
British Asian to hold the office.
