Matthew was a high-ranking junior tennis player in Canada, dreaming of becoming a professional athlete before moving to Los Angeles.

Matthew graduated from Buckley School, where he had decided to pursue acting instead of attending university.

While attending Buckley School, Matthew took improv classes at the LA Connection in Sherman Oaks, California.
