Father's Death
George's father, Frederick, Prince of Wales, died suddenly from a lung injury, making George the heir to the throne and granting him the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

Marriage
George III married Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in the Chapel Royal at St. James Palace. Despite the marriage being arranged for public duty, it lasted over 50 years and produced 15 children.
