Novak Djokovic was born in Belgrade, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia, to Dijana (née Žagar) and Srdjan Djokovic. He is of paternal Serbian and maternal Croatian descent.

Djokovic turned professional in 2003, marking the beginning of his illustrious career. He quickly ascended the junior ranks and entered the top 100 of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) at age 18.

Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, becoming the first Serbian man to achieve this feat. Later that year, he captured a bronze medal in men's singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Djokovic ascended to the No. 1 ranking for the first time, winning three Grand Slam titles and a then-record five Masters titles. This season is often considered one of the greatest in tennis history, with Djokovic achieving a 92.1% win record.

Djokovic completed a Career Grand Slam by winning the French Open, becoming the first player to hold all four Grand Slam titles on three different surfaces simultaneously since Rod Laver's 1969 calendar Grand Slam.

Djokovic suffered from an elbow injury that weakened his results until the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, where he won the title while ranked No. 21 in the world. He slowly improved throughout 2018, winning his fourth Wimbledon title and his third U.S. Open singles championship.

Djokovic had a historic year, winning the US Open to match Margaret Court's Open era record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles. He also won the ATP Finals for a record seventh time and ended the year as the world No. 1 for the eighth time. Additionally, he completed a Career Golden Slam by winning the Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, although the achievement was finalized in 2024.

Djokovic won the Olympic gold medal in men's singles at the Paris Olympics, completing his Career Golden Slam. He also became the oldest gold medalist in men's tennis singles history at the Paris Olympics.
