Jenna Marie Ortega was born in Coachella Valley, California, to a family of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent. She is the fourth of six siblings.

Jenna began to take an interest in acting at the age of five. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue her passion.

Jenna begged her mother to let her pursue a career in acting. Her mother initially tried to distract her with other activities but eventually supported her by buying her a monologue book and posting a video of her performing.

Jenna's mother began driving her to Los Angeles for auditions, which sometimes took up to six hours roundtrip, up to five days a week.
